ART: George Condo, 1957- present –

George Condo, the maestro of modern madness, is an American contemporary artist whose work straddles the line between genius and chaos. He creates portraits inspired by cubism and pop art and his work is characterized by its surreal and often humorous images. Condo’s art can be seen as a multi-layered experience mixing art historical references and combining those elements to create a unique vision. He favors painting cartoon characters, clowns and reconstructed figures. He always manages to surprise with each new painting and knows how to awaken the viewer’s curiosity. This week, we will be creating our own portraits inspired by Condo’s technique of reconstructing facial features, combining collage with oil pastel elements.
